Sugar-free hay is scarce. / News
This year we see a high sugar percentage in the grass and thus also in the different batches of hay. Sugar is difficult for a horse to digest. And due to an excess of sugars, horses gain weight and related issues arise. We certainly want to prevent that.
Why a shortage of low-sugar hay?
The ideal conditions for grass are warm and wet weather. In that case, you see that the grass contains a lot of proteins and little sugar. Last summer we had a lot of heat but it was very dry. As a result, the grass retains more sugar. So due to the weather of last summer, we have nice hay: the hay has a nice color and smell. But the hay often contains a lot of sugar.
Hay with high sugar content is bad for your horse
Sugar is difficult for a horse to digest. You want to prevent your horse from consuming too much sugar. Per kilogram of body weight, a horse may consume a maximum of 2 grams of sugar. On average, there is now 10% sugar in hay. Fortunately, we still have a batch of roughage in our webshop with a sugar percentage lower than 7.5%.
Low-sugar hay
Our new batch of low-sugar grass seed hay from Zeeland Flanders has everything we are looking for in a batch of grass seed hay. It has a nice color, low sugar and energy values, and a coarse structure. With this batch, you can offer unlimited hay, as the combination of the low sugar percentage and coarse structure creates a double effect. The hay will be eaten more slowly and less, and is much leaner than meadow hay. Another option is to replace 10 to 20 percent of your hay with alfalfa hay, as alfalfa hay naturally has a high protein and low sugar content.

Hoe kom ik aan tokens?
Door je winkelmandje te vullen, vul je automatisch ook je 'token mandje'. Hoe meer je bestelt, hoe meer tokens je krijgt. Per product staat vermeld hoeveel tokens je voor dit product krijgt. Dit wordt vermenigvuldigd met het aantal van het betreffende product in je mandje 'et voila', dat zijn het aantal tokens in jouw mandje. Je kunt hierbij verschillende producten combineren om aan de gewenste aantallen te komen.
