Sugar poor hay is hard to find / News
This year we have found that the grass has an extremely high sugar content which also appears in many hay batches. Sugar is hard to digest for a horse. If horses ingest too much they can become overweight and develop issues related to this. We want to prevent this.
Why is there a shortage of sugar poor hay?
The ideal circumstances for grass to grow is warm and wet weather. This is when grass contains little sugars and lots of protein. Last summer we had a lot of heat but very little rain. Because of this the grass contains more sugar. The warm weather did give us extremely beautiful hay: the hay has a vibrant colour and a good fragrance. But, overall, the hay does contain mostly sugar
Hay with a high sugar content is bad for your horse
Sugar is hard to digest for your horse. You want to prevent your horse from ingesting too much sugar. Per kilogram of bodyweight your horse is allowed to ingest a maximum of 2 grams of sugar. On average there is 10% sugar in hay. Luckily we have hay in our webshop with a sugar percentage lower than 7,5%.
Sugar poor hay
Our new batch of sugar poor hay was harvested from Zeeuws Vlaanderen has everything we look for in a batch of hay. It has a vibrant colour, is low in sugar and energy and has a coarse structure. With this batch you can offer your horse unlimited hay. The combination of a low sugar percentage and a coarse structure has double the effect. The hay will be eaten slower and less frequently, it is also lower in sugar content. Another option is to replace 10 to 20 percent of your hay with alfalfa hay. Alfalfa hay is naturally low in sugar and high in protein.

Hoe kom ik aan tokens?
Door je winkelmandje te vullen, vul je automatisch ook je 'token mandje'. Hoe meer je bestelt, hoe meer tokens je krijgt. Per product staat vermeld hoeveel tokens je voor dit product krijgt. Dit wordt vermenigvuldigd met het aantal van het betreffende product in je mandje 'et voila', dat zijn het aantal tokens in jouw mandje. Je kunt hierbij verschillende producten combineren om aan de gewenste aantallen te komen.
